Love and Germophobia Wins Montreal

By Mark Hyatt

Love and Germophobia was produced last year with Tyler Spindel who wrote and directed the eleven minute comedy. We submitted the film to the Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal last summer and it was not only accepted but won the honor of Best Short Film. A great start to the festival circuit as Montreal is very competitive and a great showcase for comedy. It has since been accepted into several more festivals including the LA Comedy Festival with additional wins at both the Milwaukee Film Festival and the HollyShorts Film Festival.

The film has a great cast that includes TJ Miller, Kurt Fuller, Gerry Bednob, Kelly Stables and Angela Trimbur which has also led it into some audience choice awards. It’s a great experience to see the different audiences react in different ways. I’m always surprised how much a viewing experience and an audience is contingent on the time and place. Last week it received laughs at the Irvine Film Festival during several moments that were quite different from the other screenings.

Additional producers on the Love and Germophobia include Alex Cohn, David Storch and Jared Sandler. All of us are indebted to all of the amazing crew that helped make the film successful; including our talented cinematographer Todd Dos Reis, our amazing editor Adam Svatek of Beast Editorial and Robert Ascroft who graciously photographed and designed the poster for the film.
